Birds of a feather

Our October exhibition at the Omokoroa Gallery is ‘Birds of a Feather’, a multimedia collaborative exhibition involving Omokoroa Artists, Omokoroa Photographers, Omokoroa MenzShed and the Omokoroa Bird Group, with art by local school children. Omokoroa is one of the foremost feeding sites for the Kuaka, or Bar-Tail Godwit. This wee bird annually flies 12,000 kms over 7-9 days non-stop between Alaska and New Zealand – coming in their thousands to the Tinopai sandbar. Other events: The 2024 Godwit Kuaka Festival will take place on Sunday 11 October 12-3pm, Cooney Reserve. A guided walk from Cooney Reserve to Tinopai Bridge on Monday 7 October, led by local bird enthusiast Christina Cleaver. Meet in the Cooney Reserve at 11am. A talk by Christina Cleaver on Wednesday 23 October from 6-7.30pm at the Old Library, Omokoroa (TOLO), McDonnell Street.
