David Henderson

Kia ora! My name is David, and I am a Printmaker/Painter specialising in woodblock and Lino prints. I live in Arataki, Mount Maunganui, with my wife Nina and our two boys, Henry (12) and Jimmy (9). Art is my passion, and I consider myself lucky to teach Painting and Printmaking at Otumoetai College. I began my artistic journey in Dunedin, where I pursued a Bachelor of Fine Art, majoring in Printmaking. Marilyn Webb and Chris de Jong, my incredible tutors, imparted a diverse range of art-making skills to me. The main goal of my exhibition is to share my artistic process with you. To me, art is a means of self-expression, and I believe that the process is just as significant as the final outcome. When I carve woodblock prints, the act of carving itself becomes a meditative experience, allowing me to immerse myself in the process, which is what I enjoy most. In this exhibition, a large painting takes centre stage, highlighting the collaborative process with my family. Stepping back and letting my children make decisions became an integral part of this artistic journey. It was a joy to share and enjoy the moment with my family.
