Tauranga Embroiderers’ Guild

Tauranga Embroiderers’ Guild began informally in 1980 and joined the Association of New Zealand Embroidery Guilds in 1982. Over time meetings were held in a succession of venues until in 1991 the Guild began meeting weekly at the Tauranga Rowing Club in Memorial Park where we continued meeting for the next 30 plus years until the move to the Bowls Tauranga South Clubrooms. Members have enjoyed participating in many projects, including the Sulgrave Manor curtains and Globe Theatre curtains now residing in England, a Galleria hanging in Parliament Buildings in Wellington, the Tapestry Trust panel depicting historical events in the Tauranga region and acknowledging a work by local artist, Timo Rannali in stitch. A major national achievement for TEG was hosting Conference 2022 Stitch-A-Plenty in July 2022 at Tauranga Boys’ College. This event gave the guild the opportunity to immerse within the Tauranga Arts Community and showcase embroidery on a scale never seen here before. The Guild currently meets at Bowls Tauranga South, 15 Tutchen St (off 11th Ave) on Tuesdays 10am-2.30pm and in Bethlehem on Wednesdays 7-9pm, excluding a couple of weeks over the Christmas/New Year period.
