The Omokoroa Gallery is delighted to welcome back our November exhibitors: the esteemed Tauranga Woodcrafters Guild. Founded in 1986 by Ken Sagar and Jack Bennett, the Guild began as a simple idea—to bring together local woodworkers in Tauranga. Their first meeting was held on 17 April 1987 at the St Johns Ambulance Hall, and from there, the Guild grew steadily, gathering in various locations including Lindsay Dunstan’s packing shed, Bay of Plenty Polytechnic, and the Bible Chapel in Otumoetai. Today, the Guild proudly operates from its purpose-built workshop at 3 Cherokee Place, Mount Maunganui, a space constructed in 2014 and fully equipped to support their craft. Now with over 90 members, the Guild is a vibrant community of men and women who share a deep passion for woodcraft. From finely turned bowls and intricate carvings to playful toys, their work reflects both skill and heart. This exhibition is a celebration of that spirit—welcoming visitors to explore, appreciate, and connect with the beauty of wood in all its forms. Whether you're an art enthusiast, a curious local, a visiting tourist, or someone looking for a unique gift, we invite you to experience the warmth and creativity of this community showcase.
